Ugochukwu K Mbamalu
Ugochukwu is a legal practitioner with experience in financial services, tax compliance and advisory and dispute resolution.
A cum laude graduate of both Nnamdi Azikiwe University and the Nigerian Law School, he possesses a Masters degree (distinction) in Canadian Common Law and Tax from York University, Canada. After graduating from law school, he began his legal practice as an associate in the Lagos office of Streamsowers & Köhn where he practiced in the Corporate & Commercial and Dispute Resolution groups, as well as the Social Media & Business Development sub-group.
During that time, he was majorly engaged in advising and representing clients in cases regarding various subject matter ranging from labor and employment to debt recovery. Subsequently, he was employed as a junior associate in the law office of Babajide Oladipo (SAN) & Co., where his practice areas were primarily dispute resolution, particularly arbitration, company secretarial service and tax compliance.
In 2019, Ugochukwu became a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK - Nigeria branch and remains in good standing till date. Ugochukwu also served on the Nigerian Gas Association Roundtable in 2018 where he helped in organizing the Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition 2019.
He also volunteered at the Tax Dispute Clinic as a member of Pro Bono Students Canada (Osgoode Chapter) where he partnered with the Community & Legal Aid Services Programme (CLASP) and KPMG to provide pro bono services to low-income individuals who encounter legal problems involving tax law in Toronto. He is also an alumnus of Leiden University where he obtained a certificate in International Tax Law.
Ugochukwu is a dual-qualified lawyer licensed to practice law in Ontario (Canada) and Nigeria. He advises clients in a broad range of corporate and tax matters, with hands-on experience in charity and tax law, financial services, tax compliance and corporate governance.
